PORTABILITY & CUSTOMISABILITY

Oregan Networks designed its product to allow consumer electronics manufacturers or service providers to fully customize the set of modules, features and look and feel of their product.

The look and feel of the end product is designed, using readily available web authoring tools, since the Oregan Embedded Media Browser 'skin' is created solely using HTML, PNG graphics and a simple scripting language. Consumer Electronics manufacturers and service providers also have full control over configuration options and remote device management, enabling them to fulfil their deployment requirements and also to create product differentiation.

The Oregan Plug-in API allows extension of the core browser functionality via modules that can be permanently stored on the device, or dynamically downloaded from a web server. This enables competent third party developers to create new applications and services, where a greater level of hardware or OS control is required than can be provided by a web-based application.

The Plug-in API has been utilized by a large number of developers, creating a variety of value-add applications. Examples include development of an Electronic Program Guide, a TV instant messaging application and support for a number of proprietary video streaming protocols.

REMOTE UPGRADE

The features of consumer electronics devices and Internet technology are constantly evolving. Oregan has an ongoing commitment to product development, to leverage innovations in digital entertainment and web technologies. The modular structure of Oregan's solution, together with its remote upgrade capability, permit CE manufacturers and service providers to keep apace of technology trends and to be in full control of their deployment timescales.
